ANTON SCHWARTZ

When Music Calls
AntonJazz AJ-1001 (61:31)

Laying down lyrical lines, saxophonist Anton Schwartz leads the way as he and his accomplished quartet of fellow Bay Area musicians deliver a limber easy-on-the-ears recording. Schwartz shows his command of his tenor with a smooth tone that conveys the cool of his mentor Warne Marsh and a bit of Dexter Gordon's grit. Playing a set of mostly originals, Schwartz distinguishes himself as a composer, arranger, and instrumentalist.
